Let's celebrate National Wine and Extra Virgin Olive Oil Culture Day!
On 7 May, Italy unites to celebrate the richness of its wine and olive oil traditions. This special day was established in 2011 with the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry, the Ministry of Education and the Italian Sommelier Association (AIS).
The main objective of this initiative is to promote the awareness and dissemination of knowledge regarding the wine and olive oil production of the Italian regions, as well as topical issues such as agri-food excellence and the fight against counterfeiting.
The National Day of Wine and Extra Virgin Olive Oil Culture is a unique opportunity to highlight two of Italy’s most important and representative products in the world. In particular, Extra Virgin Olive Oil plays a fundamental role in the Mediterranean Diet, being a primary source of fats and boasting nutritional properties recognised by the scientific community. Its presence in the daily diet not only gives flavour and authenticity to dishes, but also contributes to the prevention of certain diseases, according to numerous scientific studies.
